SWPAT: Microsofts Pat/ent stoppt MADRID-.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- Bereits im August wurde klar dass das Verhalten von Microsoft zum Problem wird: Not all products are OPEN SOURCE! So in short, in no way would we subject the future of our mail product lines based on Microsoft "patents." We have never done it and we will never will. We have a very successful anti-spam system. Why would be want to alter this now? The only reason we were here in the first place was to help make SPF the standard. Not get into idiotic Intellectual Property Rights issues. Nun hat es wohl endgültig gereicht. Microsoft wollte Anfangs werder mit genauen Unterlagen zum Patent noch mit den Lizenzbedingungen herausrücken. Letzte Woche wurden diese Veröffentlicht - und die Arbeiten am Standard beendet. Microsoft muss nun heftige Kritik für seine Taktik einstecken. Mitglieder der Arbeitsgruppe beschuldigen Microsoft die "Intellectual Property" der Arbeitsgruppe und des Standards durch Pat/entierung stehlen zu wollen - Es gibt sogar Ankündigungen nie wieder mit Microsoft an Standards arbeiten zu wollen. The whole of this has been an exercise in futility from day one. The knowledge of hidden limits made clear last week when the patent applications were published was clearly available to one of our members when we started and they chose to jerk several hundred people around for months in a clearly concerted effort to increase their already overwhelming market dominance. I will not personally involve myself again as a willing contributor in any process that presumes decency, honesty, or simple forthright behavior from that member. http://www.imc.org/ietf-mxcomp/mail-archive/msg05079.html It stank from day 1, and this effort of MS to steal the IP of SPF and related methods illustrates an ulterior motive from the start. The good news is I don't think it will work, providing the patent claims are fought off with prior art disclosure, and the fact that MS does NO represent the majority of MTA's anyway. http://www.imc.org/ietf-mxcomp/mail-archive/msg05066.html Microsoft trifft aber nicht die alleinige Schuld, auch dem IETF-Board wird vorgeworfen die Behandlung der Probleme mit Microsofts Strategie über Monate verschleppt und ignoriert zu haben. Das Grundübel ist aber das Patentieren von "technischer" Software. Microsoft hätte sicher bei seiner Politik anders arbeiten können, an der Pat/entierung hätte das nichts geändert: Das hätte dann sicher jemand anderer gemacht.
